Turkey Yacht Charter – Turquoise Coast Sailing Itinerary

|
1 Feb 2022

While Greece is a popular beach destination, many travelers may not realize that the neighboring country of Turkey offers equally stunning coastlines, for your perfect Turkey Yacht Charter experience. The stretch from Fethiye to Antalya, known as the Turkish Riviera, is dotted with gorgeous beaches, ancient ruins, and numerous opportunities for activities such as hiking, diving, and exploring. The region, historically known as Lycia, was once home to an independent people whose most visible legacy is the distinctive rock tombs that dot the landscape. The beauty of this region is largely untouched, with coves and islets inaccessible by land. Therefore, the best way to experience everything the Turkish Riviera has to offer is by yacht charter.

This itinerary focuses on the Göçek area, taking you through the beautiful turquoise waters of the Lycian Coast. A typical 7-day Göçek itinerary includes sailing in Fethiye Bay and exploring its many islands and coves, as well as traveling along the coast to destinations such as Ekincik and Bestas Limani. For those seeking a longer adventure, you can sail west to Marmaris, Datca, and Bodrum, or east to Kalkan, Kas, and Kekova.

Are you ready to embark on your Turkish yacht charter experience? Let’s begin.

SAMPLE ITINERARY*

Gocek Mugla, Turkey

Day 1: Arrival at Göçek

Upon your arrival at the airport, our crew will coordinate a taxi pick-up for you. Our driver will meet you at baggage claim and take you to the harbor at Göçek, where you’ll meet the crew. Once aboard your yacht, you’ll be briefed and allowed to settle in with a welcome cocktail as we set sail for Kapi Creek. This picturesque bay in the Skopia Limani area is our first stop.

Here, we’ll go ashore for a hike to the summit of the nearby mountain, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views. If we’re lucky, we may even spot a pair of Eleonora’s falcons. After the hike, you can explore the local village and shop for handicrafts before taking a dip in the turquoise waters. We’ll end the day with dinner at the Kapi Creek restaurant.

Ancient city of Kaunos, Dalyan valley, Turkey

Day 2: Ekincik Limani

After breakfast, we’ll sail to Ekincik Limani, a stunning bay surrounded by mountains covered in pine trees. A day tour will take us to Dalyan and Caunos, where we’ll explore ancient ruins, visit local villages, and relax in hot springs and Turkish mud baths. The ancient city of Caunos, nearly 5,000 years old, is one of the oldest settlements on Earth.

In the evening, we’ll wander through the cobblestone streets of Dalyan, stopping at local shops and enjoying a traditional Turkish dinner before returning to the yacht.

Fethiye Mediterranean sea and beach

Day 3: Fethiye

Today’s destination is Fethiye, the Turquoise Coast’s largest resort town, known for its rich history and natural beauty. Once we anchor, we’ll visit the Amyntas Rock Tombs, shop at local markets, explore the old town, or visit the Fethiye Museum. For lunch, we’ll enjoy pide, a long pizza with Middle Eastern flavors.

In the afternoon, we’ll sail to the uninhabited Gemiler Island, once inhabited during Lycian times and believed to be the resting place of St. Nicholas. Alternatively, you may choose a day trip to Ephesus, home to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Greek village of Kayakoy

Day 4: Bestas Limani (Cold Water Bay)

We’ll continue our journey to Bestas Limani, also known as Cold Water Bay due to the freshwater springs that flow into it. This former pirate haven is now a peaceful spot perfect for swimming and relaxation.

After lunch onboard, you can swim, dive from the rocks, or hike to the deserted Greek village of Kayakoy. Dinner will be at a hilltop restaurant overlooking the bay.

Simena ancient city

Day 5: Tomb Bay

We’ll sail west across Fethiye Bay to Tomb Bay, named for the Lycian rock tombs carved into the cliffs above. Spend the morning exploring the coves and inlets of Kizilkuyrusk or Red Tail Bay, with opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.

Later, we’ll anchor at Tomb Bay, where you can visit the ruins of Crya, a Carian and Lycian city dating back to the 4th century B.C. Dinner will be at a local restaurant by the water.

Göcek Bays

Day 6: Return to Göçek

On our final day, we’ll sail back to Göçek, making stops for a swim or snorkel along the way. Once docked, you can choose to relax on the yacht, visit the beach, or explore the town. Our last dinner will be served onboard under the stars.

Cup of hot coffee

Day 7: Departure

On your last morning, enjoy a warm cup of coffee on deck, soaking in the beauty of Turkey one last time. As this is the final day of your charter, it’s time to disembark. Until next time!
